A wingman's primary responsibility is to watch the back of the lead aircraft. Additionally, a wingman provides increased situational awareness and support when unexpected situations arise during a mission.
The ideal length
Just long enough for two fingers to provide ample leverage but not add bulk to your key ring.
Bonus feature
Because the Wingman is made out of solid titanium, it's strong enough to be used as a pry bar!
